Donations and Tax Deduction
Since January 2005 it has become easier for companies, private foundations, and private individuals to deduct gifts and donations.
How much can I donate?
There is no longer any limit on the size of a donation. Therefore, tax-deductible donations of any size are now possible.
Which donations are tax-deductible?
You can deduct the market value of donated artworks or cultural and natural history exhibits. There is no limit on this kind of donation.
What are the conditions for a tax-deductible donation?
A donation to the museum is deductible under the following conditions:
- There is no quid pro quo by or conditions made by the museum.
- The donation is made to contribute to the cultural activities of the museum.
- The donation has a value of at least 500 DKK.
What if the donation is given in return for a service provided by the museum?
If the donation is given in exchange for a service provided by the museum we can offer tax-deductible sponsorship agreements. Through sponsorship agreements, corporations can make tax-deductible contributions to the museum in return for the promotion of their name, brand or company profile. Through a sponsorship agreement, corporations can deduct promotional expenses and running costs incurred during the financial year.
What are the practicalities of tax deduction?
The museum contacts the expert appointed by the Danish Ministry of Culture to value the donation. In addition, the museum reports the donation to the Danish tax authorities according to the stipulations of Danish tax legislation. The person/corporation making the donation includes the donation in their tax returns/company accounts.
